The Confederation of Haitian Workers- CTH
This group is working on economic development projects, health programs, and worker advocacy. CTH bought an old hotel in Charedon which houses "Kay Pam" (Our House), a restaurant, storage space, art shops, a radio station, and offices. Many CTH members are also pastors working in rural areas in coalition with church groups. The SAP (Structural Adjustment Program) of the neo-liberal policies of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund have caused CTH programs, especially in health, to lose funding. The SAP philosophy is that wasteful government programs must be tightened up and private agencies should provide such services. The result is that those who cannot afford services, the majority, go without.
